We understand life happens. Please understand that late arrivals create disruption to both the teacher’s energy and focus on their class, as well as students’ experience within the class.
Please assume the class start time is 10 minutes PRIOR to the actual start time. We want you to have mats, props, and any setup ready in advance for an on-time start.
We are centrally-located, so give yourself a few minutes for parking:
- Park along the street on Dexter, the north block is easiest (towards Howe). Please do not park in the studio lot.
- For our Non-Drivers: Bus routes: E, 4, 5, 21, 28, 62, and 131. Dedicated bike lanes available.
Phones:
- (Please!) no mobile phone usage during class. We ask this to respect fellow students and give you the space to be fully present to class.
- Studio wifi is not available to students.
Recording guidance:
- In specific pole dance classes, video may be allowed during the final dances of class. No video may include others in the background unless EXPLICIT verbal consent is obtained every single instance (No blanket consent).
- Please wait for the instructor cue or ask permission before assuming any recording.
- Please respect that recording may not be allowed in some classes.
Body products:
- Oil-based lotions and moisturizing creams are not a pole’s friend. Many pole moves require skin to “stick”, so please avoid all slippery skin substances 12 hours before class or shower before class for best adhesion.
- It’s helpful to wash your hands with soap prior to class to remove excess oils and contribute to studio/prop cleanliness.
- Some of us have dry skin, and there are various recommended lotions that can actually help condition our skin for pole when used properly.
- These include Aveeno, Corn Huskers, Glycerine (unscented). Please reach out via email if you’d like advice, we’re happy to give you tips.
Jewelry:
- Please remove all jewelry for pole classes as it can damage poles and vice versa… or get caught.
- Fitness-tracking watches (Apple watch, etc) are allowed with appropriate sport/silicone bands, but no metal. Please use a sport/sweat band covering the watch face to avoid scratches or damage.
- Jae is not liable for any damage to watches/jewelry.
What to Wear:
- For some pole moves, skin is necessary. Sleeveless tops and shorts are typically needed for technical pole classes. Layers are recommended for freestyle or floorwork. General athletic attire is fine for other classes, and no shoes/socks are needed. See class descriptions for guidance.
- Our building is shared with various professional tenants and businesses. During normal business hours, please be thoughtful with coverage in common areas (hallways, kitchen, etc).
- We will offer a few light robes if needed to/from the restroom.
Hygiene:
- As we move and interact in close quarters, please be mindful of scented products as they can cause reactions and sensitivities in others. This includes perfumes, lotions, hair products, and deodorants.
- Personal scents can be subjective. While sharing close space with varied preferences, we ask you to be mindful of personal hygiene and wear clean attire. We recommend bringing a personal towel, also available for purchase in the studio.
- If you have personal situations or concerns, please discuss with Jae Studios leadership. We assure these conversations will be treated with sensitivity and discretion.
Yes, we just ask you to not grind or dig into the wood floors. (We love and appreciate shoe covers, which can also be made out of old socks.) During normal business hours (9-5), please no slamming or hard-hitting heels work in order to respect our downstairs neighbors (therapists!)
-
Personal Items for Sale: (in studio)
- Hand towels
- Red/Blue Therabands
- Girlie Grip (grip aid)
- Adaptogenic Beverages
-
Studio Hygiene:
- Studio towels are for cleaning props and mats only, please.
- While we do have therabands for student use, they do break down with harsher cleaners & are difficult to clean well. Because of this, we recommend bringing your own or offer them for sale in studio.
- Cleaning: We use an EPA-registered, eco-friendly disinfectant that’s safe for people, pets, and the environment.
We care about safety and proper technique. Please do not teach technical movements to fellow students. All teaching should be facilitated by a trained Jae instructor.
For safety and liability, all spotting should be referred to trained instructors only.
We encourage the use of a crash mat whenever needed.
Our studio welcomes adults aged 18 and above.
By signing our wavier, you are certifying that you meet our age requirement.
We are committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all. We have zero-tolerance towards discrimination, harassment, or inappropriate conduct/speech towards any Jae instructor, student, or visitor. This includes, but is not limited to, actions based on race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
- We encourage reporting of any concerns or incidents. All reports will be taken seriously and handled confidentially.
- Violators of this policy may be asked to immediately and permanently leave our space. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who does not adhere to these principles.
- By participating in our classes or entering our studio, you agree to uphold these standards and contribute to a positive, inclusive community.
If you have a concern to report, please use our chat or email: hey@jae-studios.com
As our kitchen and bathrooms are a shared space with other building tenants, please do not leave items or use the refrigerator.
- If you have lost an item, please reach out to our chat or email hey@jae-studios.com immediately. Jae is not responsible for left items.
- Lost and found will be donated at least monthly.
We believe a clean space is essential for a positive experience. Our studio thrives when we all contribute to maintaining its cleanliness. Please follow instructions from our staff for cleaning and storing props.
- Keep pole (alcohol) rags separate from other prop/mat cleaning rags.
- Use only approved cleaning spray for other props and mats.
- Please wipe thoroughly as you would want props cleaned for your own use.
- We recommend bringing a personal towel. Jae towels are offered for purchase in studio.
At Jae Studios, we believe in the power of community and the importance of giving back. We respect and celebrate the diverse causes our community members choose to support. As a studio, our ongoing philanthropic efforts focus on organizations dedicated to research, as well as speech and dance therapy for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
These initiatives align closely with our values (and reside close to our hearts), allowing us to make a meaningful impact through our expertise in movement and expression. We invite our community to join us in supporting these vital causes as we work to improve the lives of those affected by Parkinson’s disease.
